Legacy Endowments

Books and Materials Endowment

In 2004, a million dollar Books and Materials Endowment was established by the Foundation and was a joint effort between the Foundation and Friends of the Sacramento Public Library. As of June 30, 2015 the endowment is valued at $1,178,500 and has distributed $578,000 to the Library.

This endowment pays the interest generated by the principal to make an annual contribution toward books and materials for the Sacramento Public Library.

The Sacramento Room Endowment

In 2008, the Board of Directors of the Sacramento Public Library Foundation voted to establish an endowment for The Sacramento Room. The Foundation will continue to increase the principal of the endowment in support of the archive. As of June 30, 2015 the endowment is valued at $1,089,300 and has distributed $193,500 to the Library.

This endowment pays the interest generated by the principal to make an annual contribution toward digitizing segments of the collection including old and rare photographs, which gives customers internet access to segments of the archive.

The Children’s Literacy Endowment

In 2014, the Board of Directors of the Sacramento Public Library Foundation voted to establish an endowment for Children\’s Literacy. The Foundation received an unrestricted bequest in the 2014-15 fiscal year and directed the entire gift into the endowment.   The Foundation will continue to increase the principal of this endowment in support of Children\’s Literacy activities at our libraries. As of June 30, 2015 the endowment is valued at $113,100 and has made no distributions.

This endowment will pay the interest generated by the principal to make an annual contribution toward children’s literacy initiatives in the Library.
